Why should you care about New Providence?
- It is the home of the Bell Labs headquarters (seen at right).
- It was one of the first settlements in this county.
- It was the big Kahuna from which modern-day Summit, Berkeley Heights, and Murray Hill were carved.
- It is awesome.
(Check it out: here is a map from 1776 of basically the entire northeast, and New Providence (aka Turkey) was one of 5 towns in modern-day Union County that they thought was important enough to put on the map.)

…Okay, that’s a little subjective, maybe.
